Our Chachamim instituted special tefillos in order to ensure that we do not go a day without thanking Hashem. In fact, the first words we utter every single morning are words of thanks. Modeh Ani – an expression of gratitude that Hashem has returned our neshamos to us, giving us yet another opportunity to accomplish in this world.
Which brings us to part three or our thankful-themed triple-header. After having been granted an entire week to do the ratzon Hashem, we find a slightly different version of Modeh Ani for us to recite to express our thanks. Located in the beautiful “Ribon Kol Olamim” tefillah after Shalom Aleichem, we find the words of thanks that say it all; ‘Thank You Hashem for the kindness that You constantly do for me and for my family.’
Now, if only there were a song that fittingly conveys this simple yet heartfelt, humble yet powerful feeling of gratitude…
The truth is there were many songs that I would have liked to highlight here. So while there were quite a few that didn’t make the final cut, (Lev V’Nefesh, Schwebel, Scharf & Levine, MBD, Beri Weber, Joey Newcomb, Ohr Chodosh, Baruch Levine, Journeys, etc.), there is never a wrong time to say ‘thanks,’ and I’m sure we will get to all the great tunes at some point in the future, be’H. The final choice of the series is the gorgeous melody composed by legendary songwriter Abie Rotenberg who sings it together with the dynamic Tzvi Silberstein on the latter’s 2016 phenomenal album of duets called Kol Hakochavim. Listen. Connect. Reflect. Repeat.
And with this, we have come to the end of our gratefulness line-up that hopefully will have brought us to Shabbos with a better appreciation for everything Hashem does for us. Being מכיר טוב is the most essential character trait of a Yid – it’s what defines us! It was for this reason that I decided to seize the mood of the moment to try to emphasize this fundamental fact by melodic means, sending out more posts than you are accustomed to seeing each week. I hope you didn’t mind too much. Either way, I thank you for joining me in the fun!
Wishing you a beautiful Shabbos!
